Special Features of Baoshan Elementary School

1. Rejuvenate the campu

Our school have been establish since year 1916, under our senior principal's diligently management , the school has growth and cultivated numerous outstanding talents from Baoshan and Shanhu village. In year 2010, in order to invigorate the campus, teachers from Baoshan and Shanhu together with members from Ta Hwa Institute of Technology reform the campus to allow students experience the beauty of ecology and the reading creation. The hard works had finally gain favorable comment from the community.

2. Ecological environment in the campus

Baoshan Elementary school is still retaining the natural outlook; we have a lot of food plants and nectar plants that attract the butterflies, bees, dragonfly and other insects. Plants such as coconut tree, breadfruit, Taiwan acacia, and tabula rasa tree are perfect for leisure while banana tree, papaya tree, olive tree, longan tree and the mulberry tree would be the fruit for students’ lunch. Moreover, birds, bats and squirrel are also the campus patrons.

Baoshan Elementary School is situated near to the Baoshan second reservoir while Shanhu Branch School is located beside the Baoshan first reservoir. Fine scenery and rich natural ecology can be observed in both schools. Rich agricultural such as citrus orchard, pear planter area and the famous Baoshan olive are located nearby too. Some destinations for leisure such as the two valuable reservoirs, maple tree footpath, The Twins water outlet, Shahuli footpath, hiking footpath, Shanfeng charcoal kiln, Songtao coffee house are all not far from our schools.

In this gifted environment, Baoshan Elementary school and Shanhu Branch students would get a chance to learn to appreciate, giveback, treasure the environment , understand the usefulness of nature to create a bright future.

 

3. Featured course

The school prospects are health, happiness, diversification and foresight. Students would get a chance to enjoy the beauty of nature, develop literary arts, develop international vision, and promote learning capability in this nature rich environment. Our team will do our best to develop the following features

1. Healthy and joyful curriculum plan

  A. Soccer: Four times per week of soccer in the morning. Is great to train students’ body balance, quick responds, and team cooperation. In year 2011, our school won fifth place in Hsinchu county soccer competition.

  B. Swimming: With collaboration with the neighbor community swimming pool cooperation, the students stand a chance to learn from the expert. Students are be taught to understand the safety in water, basic swimming skills and technique in water rescue while enjoying fun and healthy water sports..

  C. Hiking and cycling: Students had the chance to experience the nature, show their love and care to the mother earth. The cycling activity was held in the beautiful Baoshan reservoir where students can observe the fine scenery along the 10km path while challenge their self-physical capability.

D.Sports Day: Each year our school will organize Sports Day Sports .Sprint, rope skipping, badminton, baseball, stilts walking are some of students’ favorite category.

2. Development of joyful reading project

  A. Reading Magic Lamp Award: We encourage students to read , teacher will give comment once the student finished a book. Student would accumulate point for each book that was read. If student successfully to accumulate 50 points, they will get a prize that they wish for. Prize giving ceremony will be held during student assembly in order to encourage student to continue reading habit.

 

  B. Classical reading self-challenge: The entire school read the classic   literature which includes Confucian Analects and Tang poems. The junior students will study 170 Tang poems while senior students will study a total of 20 Confucian Analects. Every Thursday during the student assembly, students will be selected randomly from each grade to read the poems or analects on the stage. In the end of semester, an examination of classic literature will be held. Students that gain outstanding result would participate in the national Classic literature examination. Besides, each grade would perform the classic literature in a drama way and perform in the end semester talent and skill presentation.

  C. Morning reading project: Thanks to Huaxia Foundation,Baoshan Elementary School and Shanhu Branch receive free newspaper everyday. In the afternoon recess session, our little reporter would share some interesting stories with the school. We also encourage students to submit a piece of writing for publication.

  D. Self-assessment: Students assessment does not base on the competition of place in class, but we are more concern on students’ self-pursue progresses. Prizes and badges will be given as encouragement to students that successfully meet their goals.

 

  E. Self-Improvement award: As to encourage students to show good characteristics and apply moral value in daily life, we have come out with this award. As students show good behavior in school or at home such as polite, give a helping hand in doing house chores, walk softly, obedient, and so on, teachers and parents may give the students points as encouragement. This will indirectly cultivate good habit in students’ daily life.

 

  F. Guidance project: Guidance and encouragement are given to students who having problems in learning. Draftee from substitute service helps to guide students on every Wednesday after class hours.

 

  G. After-school care: We offer after-school care lesson such as drawing lesson, music lesson, moral guidance lesson for students.

 

3. Multiple Intelligence community curricula.

  A. Immersing in Arts’ joint exhibition: Invite master of arts to hold exhibition in school., provide opportunity to students for appreciating the art works. Moreover train students to become a guide that explain and introduce these artworks to others and at the same time plant the artistic interest in children. Students also get the opportunities to visit art exhibitions ,for example: The Mill exhibition, Monet exhibition, Marc Chagall exhibition, Song Dynasty art exhibition, Max Liu exhibition and so on.

B. Ecology Club : Every Wednesday, lecturer from Wilderness Society will guide students in understanding the ecological of flora and fauna using power point presentation, tour ,hand-on experience and observation in real world. image

  C. Calligraphy: In order to carry forward the traditional Chinese culture characteristics, we arrange club activity period to allow students to learn calligraphy and the art of tea. We hope to imply the idea of patient and careful would result in delicate outcome. 

 

  D. Pottery: Allow students to have fun from the hands-on experience in pottery production. Students will learn the process to produce pottery and appreciate their own hard work.

 

  E. Harp: The school has invited Professor Chen to instruct students in harp .Through music, students have found another perfect way to enjoy life and living.

  F. Creative flower-drum performance: Apply for traditional art performance, students gain opportunity to learn flower-drum and gain team cooperation spirit. Students will also have chance to do performance on stage while understand and appreciate the beauty of art.

 

 

4. Effort in develop foresight international view

  A. International cultural exchange: Baoshan Elelmentary School in collaboration with AIESEC in TAIWAN (National Chio Tung University) has welcome interns from all over the world to interact with students.  Students could understand foreign country culture and respect others culture and country. For now, we had intern from Brazil,Miss Thais and Malaysia,Miss Lo who shared their country unique culture with students in our school. We will continue to welcome more interns in the future.

  B. Local sentiment and international view : School has develop local ecology learning which let students to understand more about plants, insects, local histories and cultures. Besides, with collaborations with Quanta Culture & Education Foundation, our school involve in the ‘Wondervogel’ project which also give students the opportunity in learning to be a guide in introduce and explain the famous art work and the art masters. This would help to develop local and international cultural understanding in children.  

 

C. Setting up an English website: Set up English website to promote teaching in English, encourage student to participate in English-base competition.
