Special features in ShanHu Branch

 

ShanHu Branch’s curriculum development

ShanHu Branch located in near to Baoshan Reservoir ,ShanHu Village in HsinChu County. The population in ShanHu Village is not high, we have 6 classes all together with 55 students where two third come from outside of the district. We have high parental involvement in this school.

ShanHu Branch implement the “concept of central planning experiment’ since 1995. By referring to the theory of” Multiple Intelligence” by Howard Gardner, we try to develop the potential in our students and create impressive graduates over the years. ShanHu branch is rich in natural recourses which can be making use of. 

Characteristics of our plan according to the visions are as follow:

 

1.Healthy and fun curriculum plan

  A. Ball game: Although there is limited free space in ShanHu Branch, but it is still suitable for some ball game development, for example, basketball, dodge ball, baseball, handball, soccer and so on that enable student to develop physical ability.

 

  B. Sports Day: Each year our school will organize Sports Day Sports such as sprint, rope skipping, badminton, baseball, stilts walking are some of students’ favorite category

C.ShanHu Ballgame competition: Ballgame competition will be held in the first semester while the Graduation Cup will be held in the second semester where students from Grade 1,2,3,4 and 5 will compete with the Grade 6 students in various game such as soccer, handball, basketball,peekaboo and dodge ball.

 

2.Joyful reading curriculum development

  A. Morning Reading Project: Thanks to Huaxia Foundation,Baoshan Elementary School and Shanhu Branch receive free newspaper everyday In the afternoon recess session, our little reporter would share some interesting stories with the school. We also encourage students to submit a piece of writing for publication

 

  B. Calligraphy class: Students would have the chance to learn the technique in calligraphy and appreciate the beauty of Chinese characters.

 

  C. Four seasons solar terms class: Guidance given to students in understanding the course of 24 solar terms, relation of the foue season solar terms to our life and decorate the classroom with related materials.

 

  D. Nature & farming: Combined with social programs of natural farming to expose students to the knowledge of farming and appreciate Mother Nature.

Students visit the paddy field and experience the life working in paddy field.

 

Moral education: Every month we invite volunteer teacher to give talk to students related to moral value such as obedience, courage, and focus to implement in regular life , so that students would know to respect others and themselves.

 

Guidance project: Guidance and encouragement are given to students who having problems in learning. This project will be held every Wednesday afternoon.

 

After school guidance class: Rhythm lessons, pottery, art classes and storytelling lesson for junior grade students.

 

 

3.Multiple intelligence community design courses

  A. Ecology club: Lecturer from Wilderness Society will guide students in understanding the ecological of flora and fauna .

  B. Recorder Club : Students will have chance to play and enjoy music. Talent show will be held to allow children to perform on the stage.

 

  C. Environment class (Senior Grade): Specialize for the senior grade students where they will observe and take care of the plant and environment in the school compound. Student will learn the knowledge in gardening and have a greenfinger in the end.

  D. Handicraft Class: Train students in creative artistic production such as knitting, sewing and so on.

 

E. Wooden art production class: Focus in wood carving, designing, production, coloring and carpentry work.

  F. Interesting word game lesson: Guide the junior grade students in recognizing words and boost their interest in learning.

 

  G. Chinese Chess Club: The club is hosted by the Parents Committee, allow students to have fun in playing chess.

 

  H. Soccer Club: Hosted by the Parents Committee, provide student to have leisure after class.

 

 

 

4.Effort in developing foresight of international view and local sentiment

  A. Learning trip and visit various local community : river,botanical garden, Zhudong, ecological farm and so on.

 B. Learning and observing in local ecology spots: reading, photography, planning, music, observing ,understanding and analyzing.

 

 C. International cultural exchange:BaoShan Elementary School in collaboration with AIESEC in TAIWAN (National Chio Tung University) has welcome interns from all over the world to interact with students.Students could understand foreign country culture and respect others culture and country. For now, we had intern from Brazil, Miss Thais and Malaysia, Miss Lo who shared their country unique culture with students in our school. We will continue to welcome more interns in the future.

 

 D. Promote teaching in English and set up English website: Encourage student to participate in English-base competition. In year 2011, our school won the second and third prize in Group C English conversation competition in HsinChu County and Excellent Award in Group C English Reading competition.
